Why Is It Extremely Important Not to Flush the Toilet After Every Urination?

What could be more mundane than flushing the toilet after using the bathroom? It’s become an automatic gesture that we do several times a day, without even realizing it. It’s even an educational behavior that reflects a person’s etiquette and politeness. And yet, for the past few years, some experts have been advising us to change this habit. No, these days, it’s no longer impolite not to flush. We’ll explain why.

Today, ecology has become a mainstream topic. To save the planet, we must increase our daily eco-friendly actions. However, flushing the toilet after a simple pee has harmful consequences for the environment. You can’t even imagine the water consumption that such an action generates: we waste 3 to 10 liters of water in the toilet after a single flush! In Europe alone, nearly 3 billion liters of water are used each year to flush urine and other excrement. A true ecological disaster!

To avoid excessive waste of our water resources and to spare future generations from ecological disaster, it is high time we changed certain habits.

Water shortage in the world

The toilets

Global warming and poor water resource management are exacerbating droughts worldwide, a situation that endangers millions of people and also has serious social and economic consequences.

Water scarcity remains a major concern for many countries, particularly in Africa. More than 2 billion people live in water-stressed countries and suffer from a lack of access to safe drinking water  and sanitation.

The situation in East Africa, for example, is particularly worrying. Before 1999, a drought occurred once every five or six years, resulting in an insufficient rainy season.

However, since 2000, the dry season between March and May has occurred every two or three years. Last June, Madagascar was officially declared the first country in the world to suffer famine due to drought caused by global warming.

In California, for several months, the persistent drought has triggered massive fires that are ravaging forests. A disastrous situation!
