The Perfect Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein

This lo mein has become one of my absolute favorite dishes to make! The combination of tender beef, slightly crisp broccoli, and chewy noodles with that incredible sauce is just insuperable!

What is lo mein?

Lo mein means “stirred noodles” in Cantonese and has been delighting people for centuries. While this version might not be 100% traditional, it captures everything we love about this dish – those perfect chewy noodles, tender meat, and crisp vegetables all brought together with a marvelous sauce.

Ingredients (4 servings)

For the noodles and proteins:

  • 8 oz lo mein noodles (or thick wheat noodles)
  • 1 lb beef (flank steak or sirloin), thinly sliced
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped

For the sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Equipment Needed

  • A large wok or deep skillet
  • Sharp knife for the beef
  • Cutting board
