My Amish friend showed me this ‘Poor Man’s Steak’ recipe

Instructions:

Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, milk, diced onion, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and crushed saltine crackers. Mix thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are well incorporated.

Form the Patties: Shape the meat mixture into oval or rectangular patties, mimicking the shape of classic steaks.

Coat the Patties: Dredge each patty in flour, shaking off any excess.

Brown the Patties: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt the butter. Brown the patties on both sides, about 3 minutes per side, to achieve a good sear and enhance the flavor. Remove and set aside.

Prepare the Baking Dish: Place the browned patties in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.

Make the Gravy: In a bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup with 3/4 cup of milk. Mix well and pour over the patties in the baking dish.

Bake the Patties: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
