How to Soften Towels and Bathrobes with Vinegar and Lemon

Do you have old rough towels that have lost their softness? Why not try to make them like they once were with a simple grandmother’s trick? All you need to do is take a bowl of hot water and pour in a little citric acid and white wine vinegar. The result is guaranteed!

Towels and bathrobes are essential and everyday objects for all of us, but after a while they tend to coagulate, becoming much rougher and almost hard to the touch. So how can we make them soft again? Don’t worry, it is possible to restore them to their original state with natural methods, without chemical additives and ingredients that are aggressive for our health.

How to wash new towels

Instead of the classic detergent we want to offer you a much more ecological and sustainable solution.

Ingredients:

  • Hot water
  • 50g of citric acid
  • ½ glass of white wine vinegar

First, take a large bowl and put the hot water in it. We will need about 4L for at least 3 different towels (it doesn’t matter if they are the same color). Now add the vinegar. This is an ingredient that should be used sparingly because even though it is more « eco-friendly » than the classic detergent, its industrial production is anything but sustainable, if it is replaced entirely with every detergent that exists (if you think in terms of quantity). Then we also add the citric acid, a natural cleaning and softening ingredient. Now we can mix the solution until it dissolves and then we can immerse the towels. Let them soak for about 4 hours. Once removed from the bowl, clean further under warm water, eliminating any excess.
