2. Harness the Power of Cinnamon
Ants hate the smell of cinnamon. This spice is not only an excellent ant repellant, but it’s also safe for your plants. Sprinkle a little cinnamon powder around the base of your plants or on their pots. Alternatively, you can make an infusion of cinnamon and water and spray it on your plants for a longer-lasting effect.
3. Chili or Garlic Infusion
Plants also dislike pungent odors like chili peppers or garlic. To make a natural repellent, boil 2-3 fresh chili peppers or a few garlic cloves in water. Once the infusion has cooled, spray it on the leaves and soil around the plants. Ants will find the smell unbearable and will quickly move away.
4. Diatomaceous Earth
Diatomaceous earth is a natural powder obtained from the fossilized remains of diatoms. This product is completely safe for plants and pets, but lethal to insects. When ants come into contact with this powder, they suffer damage to their exoskeletons and die from dehydration. Sprinkle a thin layer of diatomaceous earth around the base of plants and along ant trails to stop their advance.
5. Repellent Essential Oils
Some essential oils are particularly effective at repelling ants. Peppermint, lemon, and lavender oils are excellent natural remedies. Mix a few drops of essential oil with water and spray the solution on plants and ant-infested areas. The scent of the essential oils interferes with the ants’ sensory system, deterring them without harming the plant.
