2) Eliminate toxic products from your home, such as detergents, cleaning products, bleach, and chemically scented “air fresheners.” There are many chemical-free home fragrances available in health food stores, and you can also make your own with essential oils. The same goes for cosmetics and body care products. Buy only aluminum- and paraben-free products, but it’s best to make your own.
If you have a garden, don’t use commercial pesticides because they are toxic: they emit caustic gases or vapors that irritate the lungs. There are alternatives that are non-toxic to humans and animals.
3) Improve indoor air quality, which can be even worse than outdoor air quality. Try replacing carpets with other floor coverings, or at least vacuum and steam clean frequently. Be wary of flame-resistant furniture or clothing. Flame retardants emit carcinogenic off-gases. Formaldehyde is also found in paints and many household materials. It’s also good to know that a law dating back a few years allows building materials to contain about 2% nuclear waste.

Cough suppressant herbs reduce respiratory spasms. Expectorant herbs loosen mucus. Emollient herbs soothe irritated tissues. And antimicrobial herbs treat infections.

Licorice root is the plant that covers almost all of these attributes. It can cause side effects for some due to its glycyrrhizin content. However, products made with licorice extract are available without glycyrrhizin. These are known as deglycyrrhizinated licorice or DGL licorice.
Lobelia, ironically known as Indian tobacco, helps clear the airways to facilitate breathing. It even works for asthma attacks.
