You may have noticed that little plastic button on your seatbelt strap. Few people think about its purpose, but it plays a much more important role than it seems. So, what does it really do?
The stop button: an ingenious invention
This “stop button ,” sometimes called a “retainer button ,” prevents the metal locking plate, the one you snap into the buckle, from sliding too low or too high on the strap.
Imagine for a moment that this button didn’t exist : the plate would fall to the base of the belt, making it difficult and frustrating to access every time.
Thanks to this small device, the locking plate always remains within reach , allowing you to buckle your seat belt quickly and effortlessly.
Where is it?
Most seat belts have two stop buttons :

The first , placed near the locking plate, prevents the latter from sliding down.

The second , located higher on the strap, limits the movement of the metal part towards the upper part.
Together, these buttons ensure that the belt remains securely positioned and ready for use .
What to do if the button breaks?
