🧠⚠️ Strokes: Warning Signs and Types You Should Know
Strokes are extremely dangerous and can have severe consequences. 🆘 Therefore, it’s essential to remain vigilant and consult a doctor as soon as you notice any warning signs.
Every year, strokes claim many lives. It occurs when a blood vessel in the brain becomes blocked or ruptured due to a blood clot. At this point, the brain cells no longer receive oxygen, leading to rapid cell decline. This requires urgent medical care to prevent long-term damage.
While strokes may seem sudden, some warning signals can appear about a month beforehand.
📝 The Different Types of Stroke
It’s important to know that strokes are not all the same. There are actually three types:
💔 Ischemic Stroke
Also known as cerebral infarction, ischemic strokes make up 85% of cases, making them the most common type.
-
If an artery supplying blood to the brain becomes clogged with cholesterol-rich plaque (atherosclerosis), it’s called cerebral thrombosis.
-
If a blood clot obstructs the artery, it’s termed cerebral embolism.
💉 Hemorrhagic Stroke
Less common, hemorrhagic strokes account for 15% of cases. The primary cause is a ruptured aneurysm.
According to the Ministry of Health, other factors such as tumors, hypertensive crises, and various bleeding disorders can also lead to cerebral hemorrhages.
⏳ Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)
Though not a stroke in the strict sense, a transient ischemic attack (TIA) occurs when the blocked artery resolves itself without leaving any sequelae.
-
The symptoms are similar to a stroke but last only a few seconds or minutes, then completely disappear.
-
Because of their transient nature, TIAs are often overlooked or mistaken for malaise.
-
However, it’s crucial to stay alert and dial emergency services (15) if it happens, as TIAs still carry a risk of stroke.
