Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 teaspoon yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons oil (preferably olive oil)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Construction (Steps):
- Activate the Yeast: In a bowl, combine the yeast, sugar, and warm water. Stir gently and let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy. This activates the yeast.
- Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt.
- Combine and Form the Dough: Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Pour the activated yeast mixture and oil into the well, then stir everything together with a spoon until the dough starts to come together.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Let It Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place until it doubles in size (usually about 1 to 1.5 hours).
- Punch Down and Shape: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air bubbles. For a thinner crust, divide the dough into 2 portions. For a thicker crust, use the entire dough. Roll out the dough to your desired thickness.
- Preheat and Rest: Transfer the rolled-out dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Preheat your oven to 475°F and let the dough rest for about 15 minutes before adding toppings.
- Top and Bake: Add your favorite pizza toppings, then bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
