You may have found detergent residue in your clothes after washing: a sign that you’ve used too much. Don’t overdo the detergent: using too much can actually have the opposite effect.
5. Overdoing the bleach
Bleach is a useful product, but it’s toxic and can ruin our laundry forever. Bleach should only be used on whites, and a very small amount is enough to achieve the desired results.
If possible, soak your laundry in a bucket filled with water and a small amount of bleach before running a wash cycle.
6. Mixing underwear with the rest of your laundry
Underwear should be washed separately to prevent socks, bras, or other items from being lost forever.
7. Not cleaning the washing machine
Unpleasant odors, excess moisture, and mold build up in a dirty washing machine. It’s important to clean your washing machine at least once a month, thoroughly cleaning the filters, seals, and detergent drawer.
Also remember to leave the washing machine door open between washes to ventilate the interior and prevent the buildup of moisture and mold.
8. Always use short wash cycles
Short wash cycles, with cold water or without spinning, are suitable for lightly soiled laundry. While these types of washes can save you money, they are not ideal for frequent washing.
9. Overusing the Spin Cycle
Another common mistake is overusing the spin cycle or setting it to spin too fast. High-speed spinning is only recommended for cotton and polyester garments.
Never use the spin cycle for silk, linen, or any polyamide fabric: it risks ruining them.
10. Don’t dry laundry after washing
Laundry that remains damp is prone to the formation of unpleasant odors, caused by bacteria. Laundry should be removed from the washing machine as soon as the wash cycle is complete and always dried.
